FIFO Chef

Join our Casual Pool of FIFO Chefs for remote camp sites across South Australia.

Your new company

At Hays Specialist Recruitment we play a major role in supporting remote camp sites in South Australia. Our clients have developed service solutions for remote sites to meet their clients' needs for comfort, safety and well-being at each stage of their projects.

Your new role

We run a large Casual Pool of staff to supply a range of hospitality services to our participating mine sites, ranging in size from 40 beds to 2000 beds in remote locations within South Australia.

These positions are on a casual basis, and we cannot guarantee a set swing pattern or returns to any specific site.
Any return requests will be dependent upon your previous performance, attitude and the site’s requirements.
We are currently experiencing a large influx of requests for qualified chefs with remote experience who can cope with large scale bulk catering for between 40-200 staff on mine sites. Catering for this size of camp site, you will be the only chef in the kitchen and therefore must hold relevant experience and competency to cope with this high demanding role.

Therefore, these roles are strictly suited to Qualified Chefs only, holding a Certificate III or above with remote site experience. Candidates will be required to work across several different shift patterns, which include Day Shift and Night Shift.

An example of this is dinner service. Your shift pattern would be 9AM to 8PM and breakfast service would be 9PM to 8AM.

Previous mine site experience is preferred, remote bulk catering work in other industries is favourable.

All flights will depart from Adelaide Airport. Some of our sites will only offer DIDO as they are located within a 2-hour drive from Adelaide, so a valid driving licence and reliable transport would be desirable.
This also means that we can only consider applicants who are based in South Australia and within a reasonable distance from Adelaide Airport.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A completed Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (OR International Equivalent) is ESSENTIAL.
  • Relevant Bulk Catering experience is ESSENTIAL for the role.
  • You will be required to get a full Police Clearance and provide 2 contactable work references.
  • A current Australian Driving Licence is preferred (or EU equivalent).
  • You must be flexible and be willing to work across all shift patterns, including the day and night shift.
  • Due to the nature of the role, we would not be able to give more than 1 – 2 weeks’ notice on your first swing, so candidates must be able to work around this.

All candidates will be expected to undertake and pass an extensive pre-employment medical and instant drug and alcohol test. Successful candidates MUST be based in South Australia as all FIFO opportunities leave from Adelaide airport. Interstate applicants need not apply.

What you'll get in return

As part of our casual roster, we offer excellent pay and conditions in remote mining camp villages that we service. This is an opportunity to do Fly In, Fly Out shifts of 1–2 weeks at a time in remote locations (flying out of Adelaide Airport only). All flights, accommodation and food are provided whilst you are on site. Accommodation consists of your own room with personal facilities. Many of these sites have access to gym equipment and other recreational facilities are available for all residents to use.
